| First-Hand 2004 Asian Tsunami Tale |
Patrick Kaufman writes of his first-hand experience with the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004:
Early in the morning as I lay in my bed I felt the bungalow moving. Half asleep I assumed it was any of the numerous dogs around rubbing themselves vigorously against one of the quite meager 4 x 4 supports. A couple of hours later after coffee I was out for a morning walk along the 2km stretch of beach. Reaching the north end I turned to make my way back to my bungalow and finish packing as I was moving over to Aonang to spend my last night in Krabi with some friends. From this part of Hat Nopparathara one can see the wide curve of the mainland that makes up the rest of Hat Nopparathara, Aonang and over to the jutting tip of Railey. The tide was just starting to go out and the water was calm and flat as far as the eye could see.
